THINK White Van Man and most people picture a male driver with a beer belly, in a filthy van, wolf-whistling at any passing girl. But modern-day White Van Man has parked that stereotype at the side of the road. In fact a new survey says today’s commercial driver is fit, healthy and loves the arts – and you are increasingly more than likely to find it’s a woman behind the wheel. The study revealed one in three van drivers are female, and rather than being overweight and unfit, 65 per cent take regular exercise. It also shows something we’ve always known. Four out of five van drivers like to keep right up to date with the news. David George from Volkswagen, which carried out the survey, says: “Our research has certainly challenged some of the outdated perceptions.” More
