Research by AA Insurance reveals the cost of motor premiums has rocketed by a record 40% in the past year. That’s on top of sky-high pump prices, which have added £30 to the average two-car family’s monthly fuel bill in the past 12 months. And it’s set to get worse, with drivers taking to the road for the Easter break facing the £100 fill-up for the first time ever. Soaring motoring costs are adding to the financial horror for households that are already facing the worst spending squeeze since the 1920s. The AA’s study shows average car insurance premiums have rocketed to £892 in the past year following a near 6% hike in the first three months of 2011 alone.
