Drivers pay £62 million last year to renew photo licence!

Drivers have to pay £20 to renew their credit-card-size licences every ten years to ensure that the photograph is up-to-date, netting the DVLA £42 million in the past year, according to figures obtained from a Freedom of Information request. A further £20 million was spent replacing lost or stolen licences at £56 a time. Hugh Bladon, spokesman for the Association of British Drivers, said last night: ‘It is a form of a stealth tax, another way of extracting more money out of the pockets of the motorist.’ More
