Experts advise on drug-driving becoming an offence…..
on December 27th, 2011 at 10:32 pmAround the world we see many areas where there is a much tougher stance on driving under the influence of drugs, both prescription and social. An expert panel is to advise the government, on whether it is possible to introduce maximum levels for drugs, similar to what is currently in place for alcohol. Saliva-based drug testing kits are currently being considered for use by police like a breathalyser.
This is a very under-estimated problem on the roads, as amounts of any type of drugs can cause massive impairments to drivers judgements, and therefore road safety. Surely a combination of driver education to the risks and potential dangers of all types of drugs would be a start. Then backed up by tougher rules and testing as required.
