German lorry driver follows Sat-Nav down narrow country lane!
on December 15th, 2009 at 11:54 pmA German lorry driver was left red faced after driving his giant truck down a narrow country lane in Devon after blindly following his satellite navigation. Despite signs clearly visible warning Heavy Goods Vehicles not to drive down the narrow lane, the driver still blindly followed his sat nav’s directions down it. The driver, who has not been named, eventually got his giant truck wedged on a corner down the lane, between Shaugh Prior and Clearbrook, in Devon. Stunned witnesses could not believe it when the driver, thought to be German, tried to reverse his vehicle during the amusing incident on Monday. He could only leave the lane by being towed by a tow truck. Eyewitness Debbie Hill, 48, was astounded the accident was caused by a sat nav blunder. “I would only have thought it would be sat nav because I can’t see why a lorry that size would turn off the trunk road,” she said. “I would imagine it turned off the main road. It’s just a narrow lane.” “Two cars can’t even pass – they can’t even turn around it’s that narrow.” She added: “It’s almost like a rat run. “It’s only a road that locals would use.” The lorry suffered damage to the cab and the mirrors were broken off in the incident.
