A jilted husband caused £20,000 of damage after he drove his car through the front door of the church where he married and ploughed up the aisle. Robert Knowles, 36, flew into a rage after wife Leigh told him their two-year marriage was over. He got into his Vauxhall Astra, drove to Flame Community Church in the West Midlands town of Rowley Regis and smashed through its front doors. Knowles powered through three sets of double doors and down the aisle. He only came to a stop when his car became wedged in a stage after laying waste to flooring, musical equipment, carpets, computers and radiators. Yesterday he was starting a ten-month jail sentence after carrying out the bizarre attack on the church in July earlier this year. He admitted causing criminal damage to the place of worship at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Tuesday. Mrs Sally Cairns, defending, said: ‘He was feeling hurt and rage. ‘He lost control when he lined up his Vauxhall Astra with the main doors.’ More
