DRIVERS who struggle to squeeze their cars into tight spaces have been presented with a geometrically perfect parking plan. The new formula is the result of a collaboration between Vauxhall Motors and maths professor Simon Blackburn. Prof Blackburn, from the University of London’s Royal Holloway College, has come up with his plan by turning the whole parking exercise into an equation. Complete with lots of square roots, brackets and numbers, the equation aims to present the best way of getting a car into a parallel parking space in one, smooth movement. The formula was released after a Vauxhall survey showed 57% lacked confidence in their parking ability and 32% would rather drive further from their destination or to a pricier car park, purely to avoid manoeuvring a tricky space. The least confident parkers were those from Norwich, while the most confident were the Welsh. More
