New technology could help tame bad behaviour by the infamous “white van man”, it was claimed this week. Launched by manpower logistics firm Trimble MRM, the device can be fitted to any vehicle and records where it is travelling – and how it is being driven. The information is relayed to fleet managers so that they can monitor bad driving habits, such as uneconomic driving, and assess how well the vehicle’s engine is running. Known as Driver DNA, the box also detects over-harsh braking and can tell whether the driver has been speeding.
