on April 15th, 2010 at 10:30 pmOne in 12 motorists has admitted having an car accident after arguing with their partner, according to a new study. Of the country’s 28.9million drivers who are in relationships, eight per cent said they have had a bump, scrape or full-on accident after getting in their car after a row with a partner. In total, the study revealed that ‘romantic road rage’ affects nine million UK drivers with 36 per cent of those surveyed admitting they pay far less attention to the roads after a row. And one in five admitted to driving ‘erratically’ following a lovers tiff. Tiger Woods famously crashed his car into a tree late last year after a row with his wife, following revelations he had been unfaithful with numerous women. Experts today warned that drivers who have had a blazing row should have a cooling off period of at least one hour before getting behind the wheel. Psychologist and life and career coach Honey Langcaster-James said: ‘A driver’s performance can be significantly affected by their emotional state. ‘Being upset, angry or frustrated with a partner or lover is a sure-fire way to distract from safe and responsible driving,’ she said. ‘With personal issues racing through their mind, drivers are at risk of subconsciously releasing tension by driving fast, or on the other hand being distracted by their heartache.’ More
