Tailgating is the number one irritant to motorists, according to a poll. The habit of driving too closely to the vehicle in front topped the list of the most-hated road habits, the survey from automotive repair company Kwik-Fit found. Next-most annoying habit was failing to indicate, followed by dangerous overtaking, jumping traffic lights and lane hogging. Last-minute braking, hesitant driving and “undertaking” – overtaking on the inside – were also among the top 10 hates. Based on responses from 1,000 adults, the poll showed that women were even more annoyed than men about tailgating. However, female drivers were more tolerant than males about dangerous overtaking, hesitant driving or lane hogging.
